Topic: New leanblueprint doesn't include a sidebar
Jon Bannon (Oct 17 2025 at 14:22):
I'm sure this has been mentioned before somewhere, but I can't find it. When one first gets leanblueprint up and running, the blueprint obtained doesn't look like much the ones linked to in the Readme. In particular, one doesn't get the sidebar enumerating sections. Only after digging for a while did I find out that my install might be correct (I thought for sure there had to be some error because my blueprint didn't look like the ones linked to). How does one go about changing the style to match the blueprints in the links more closely? Would it be good to have the style include a sidebar as default?
I guess I should ping @Patrick Massot with this. Thanks, in advance, for any help!
Patrick Massot (Oct 17 2025 at 14:34):
I am surprised by that problem. Is your blueprint public? It would be a lot easier to diagnose.
Rémy Degenne (Oct 17 2025 at 14:38):
Do you actually have chapters or sections in your blueprint? I vaguely remember that the left menu appears only if there is something to show there. I might misremember though.
Patrick Massot (Oct 17 2025 at 14:42):
Indeed, that would be a very good explanation. But I guess Jon wouldn’t ask for an empty side-bar.
Jon Bannon (Oct 17 2025 at 14:43):
Sorry for the delay, all. I've of course broken things in the attempt to fix them so waiting for a build. I do have sections and chapters, but no sidebar.
Jon Bannon (Oct 17 2025 at 14:48):
This is the site currently: https://jonbannon.github.io/double_commutant/
I'm waiting for a build where I've stolen a richer set of things from Loreaux's working example...
Mauricio Collares (Oct 17 2025 at 15:00):
You don't seem to have any \chapter{}s in your TeX file at https://github.com/JonBannon/double_commutant/blob/master/blueprint/src/content.tex
Patrick Massot (Oct 17 2025 at 15:07):
https://github.com/JonBannon/double_commutant/blob/master/blueprint/src/plastex.cfg#L12 tells plastex you want new files for every chapter, as explained at https://plastex.github.io/plastex/plastex/sec-config-files.html (search for the split-level option).
Patrick Massot (Oct 17 2025 at 15:08):
So you can either change split-level to 1 if you want one page per section or create chapters.
Jon Bannon (Oct 17 2025 at 15:21):
Thanks, @Patrick Massot and @Mauricio Collares . I had sections, but no chapters... thanks particularly for the precise pointer into the documentation for plastex, Patrick.
Jon Bannon (Oct 17 2025 at 15:35):
Works wonderfully now. Thanks everyone!
