Topic: Real analysis, the game using AI generated text?

D Walsh (Jan 01 2026 at 02:51):

it seems like some parts of Real Analysis: the game use ChatGPT generated text, can anyone else make sure im not going crazy? specifically

  • Lecture 2 post-level text
  • Lecture 3 level 1 post-level text
  • Lecture 3 level 2 intro text
There seems to be a lot of text formatted with headers, bullet pointed lists with the first sentence bolded, text that pointlessly repeats previous text, and even emojis in headers
It's disappointing, because I was really looking forward to working through this course

D Walsh (Jan 01 2026 at 02:53):

especially weird since world/lecture one isnt like this at all

In the matching playlist, IIRC @Alex Kontorovich mentions specific parts which are AI generated and they're usually a single paragraph per lecture

Snir Broshi (Jan 01 2026 at 12:39):

Also while some parts might be LLM generated, it seems to me like a lot of thought went into creating this game. I think the lectures themselves can replace reading the text, and should help you avoid text which wasn't thought out, if it exists

Alex Kontorovich (Jan 01 2026 at 21:33):

Oh yes, as you'll see in the videos, I was at first writing full levels and reading them along with the students. But they didn't seem to like that very much. So instead, I would just write out skeletons beforehand, and then during lecture, spend most of the time "on the blackboard" before playing the levels to completion. Then after each lecture, I had AI convert the skeletons to fuller text, while I prepared the following lecture. What I'm doing now is going through the whole game from scratch and reorganizing everything. I think there will be very little AI-generated text (but surely not none) in v1.0...
