Topic: Unicode characters I would like to exist

Kind Bubble (Jan 02 2023 at 21:07):

I wanted to find a backwards del unicode character, or a backwards 6 unicode character. Maybe somebody knows a link to that list where they have all the common ones in VSCODE as it is used for Lean.

Eric Wieser (Jan 02 2023 at 21:10):

Are you aware of https://shapecatcher.com/?

Oh, this is great! Ok this will suffice.

Eric Wieser (Jan 02 2023 at 21:12):

Do you mean ?

Reid Barton (Jan 02 2023 at 21:12):

I think you want aka PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL.

I wanted a perfect reflection, so a perfect reflection of the 6 or a perfect reflection of the partial. It was just going to be notation for something which needed two characters which were dual in a way.

Reid Barton (Jan 02 2023 at 21:18):

Oh I see.

I hate this one. I never know how to read it.

Julien Puydt (Jan 03 2023 at 10:31):

@Martin Dvořák I heard people use "partial" or "round d"

Martin Dvořák (Jan 03 2023 at 10:35):

I spent many years believing that it was a Greek letter I hadn't learnt yet.

It definitely feels like a greek letter.

I wanted two characters that were a perfect reflection of each other. So maybe a tweak of the 6 or a tweak of the partial.

Eric Wieser (Jan 03 2023 at 17:05):

How about d and b?

Reid Barton (Jan 03 2023 at 17:05):

Or [ and ]

Eric Wieser (Jan 03 2023 at 17:19):

By "del" did you mean “∇” (U+2207 NABLA)?

Johan Commelin (Jan 03 2023 at 17:21):

Probably .

Niels Voss (Jan 03 2023 at 17:32):

I googled and found this link which contains many mirrored characters, for example, ⊶⊷, ⧨⧩, ⫷⫸, etc.

Ooo! that's great.

Mario Carneiro (Jan 03 2023 at 21:49):

If you literally want a mirrored "6" for because you want to emphasize some symmetry, and you are writing in latex, I would recommend using a scalebox to literally just flip the text and put that in a macro so you can use it like a regular character.

Reid Barton (Jan 03 2023 at 21:59):

At that point why a 6, though

Reid Barton (Jan 03 2023 at 22:00):

It's not like you're looking for something dual to the concept conveyed by the numeral 6

Mario Carneiro (Jan 03 2023 at 22:06):

I have no idea, maybe it was a dual 6

Mario Carneiro (Jan 03 2023 at 22:06):

or it's a dual ∂, hard to tell from the original message

Kind Bubble (Jan 05 2023 at 03:25):

here's some nice ones. I don't see anyone getting this exotic but there's a whole hieroglyph set to pick from for examples.

𓃰 𓃱 𓃲 𓃳 𓃴 𓃵 𓃶 𓃷 𓃸 𓃹 𓃺 𓃻 𓃼 𓃽 𓃾 𓃿

Gabriel Ebner (Jan 05 2023 at 03:26):

Those are literally hieroglyphs. omg

Kind Bubble (Jan 05 2023 at 03:37):

I think that elephant is gonna be a keeper.
