I am sorry to hear that. I don't know how difficult the process is, but if you need some sort of "official invitation" just let us know.

A friend of mine recently decided to first travel to another Schengen country and then to France, for that same reason that he could not get an appointment (note thay if you get an invitation to another Schengen country, it might be easier to get an appointment and a visa, but then your entry point to Europe on this visa has to be that country, you cannot go directly to France or a third country, at least that’s my understanding).

@Flo (Florent Schaffhauser) You also need a reason to go to that intermediate country in order to get a visa. This could work if someone from that country offered a formal invitation and included the trip as part of that visit.
