Topic: emojis for voting
Johan Commelin (Mar 08 2024 at 04:41):
Note that my :minus: vote meant "neutral/abstain"
Johan Commelin (Mar 08 2024 at 04:41):
I realize now that this can easily be mistaken as synonym for
Johan Commelin (Mar 08 2024 at 04:43):
Maybe :right_fist: is a better symbol as interpolation of  and
Mario Carneiro (Mar 08 2024 at 05:18):
Maybe :peace_sign: can be used to mean "abstain" given its usage for delegation?
Johan Commelin (Mar 08 2024 at 08:16):
Hmm, I feel like that is a distinct meaning. And it could be ambiguous, for example when we vote on merging a PR.
Johan Commelin (Mar 08 2024 at 08:17):
:peace_sign: for me doesn't mean "neutral" or "I don't care". It means "I like this, with minor modifications that I trust OP will address competently". So it is very close to a  in that sense.

I tend to use :palm_down_hand: as "don't know/undecided", as it looks kind of like the hand rotation gesture in real life. Maybe that fits between :+1: and :-1:.
Anatole Dedecker (Mar 08 2024 at 08:48):
What about  ? Or does that sound too "I don’t care" ?
Eric Wieser (Mar 08 2024 at 09:19):
There's always the option of adding a custom emoji
Eric Wieser (Mar 08 2024 at 09:21):
Or :speak_no_evil: as "I won't say anything"
Ruben Van de Velde (Mar 08 2024 at 10:02):
:equality: for "it's all the same to me"
Johan Commelin (Mar 09 2024 at 05:52):
I really like :equality:
Personal confession: I tend to use :speak_no_evil: as "oops, I wish I didn't say anything"

It could also be interpreted as "Martin Dvořák deserves a punch into his face for this suggestion".

:scales: (inspired by :equality:)
This emoji has (at least) three names: scales, balance, justice
Adam Topaz (Mar 11 2024 at 17:15):
Why not    ?
Matthew Ballard (Mar 11 2024 at 17:20):
Patrick Massot (Mar 11 2024 at 17:42):
Adam, the issue with those faces is it’s clear whether  means only yes or yes and you are happy about it.

My :two: :coin: s: I'm used to seeing :right_fist: pretty much exclusively to mean "fist bump, dude!", as in, "an enthusiastic yeah". I haven't seen it used for voting, but if I did, I would interpret to mean "yes hell yes this is great!"
Mac Malone (Mar 12 2024 at 20:18):
My problem with :equality: is that the symbol looks more like a flag than a equal sign to me, so it takes a bit of thought upon seeing it to figure out what is meant to be implied.
