Topic: license of Zulip post
Asei Inoue (Jul 16 2025 at 12:03):
I am writing a book and would like to quote a post from Zulip in it.
I would like to confirm what kind of license applies to posts on Zulip.
If anyone knows, I would appreciate it if you could let me know.
Tom de Jong (Jul 16 2025 at 12:17):
I think you should contact the author of the post and ask for their permission. (Even if there's no legal requirement, it seems like the right thing to do to me.)
Markus Himmel (Jul 16 2025 at 12:24):
The relevant section of the Zulip terms of service is this: https://zulip.com/policies/terms#licenses I am not a lawyer, but my reading of this is that you're not allowed to do anything with Zulip posts by other people except look at them using the Zulip app; for everything else you have to get permission from the author.
Asei Inoue (Jul 16 2025 at 12:26):
Thank you!

Presumably this applies to AI model trainers scraping this Zulip as well.
Robin Carlier (Jul 16 2025 at 13:37):
Note that on the topic of scraping for training, I have asked the maintaining team in to release a clear statement about this.
