Topic: Code blocks in bullet items

Thomas Murrills (Sep 25 2025 at 22:08):

What's the right way to format code blocks in bullet items? E.g.

  • lorem ipsum
    dolor
    sic amet

written as

* lorem ipsum
  ```
  dolor
  ```
  sic amet

looks strange to me (on the mac zulip app). Does it also look strange to others?

  • lorem ipsum
dolor

sit amet

Kenny Lau (Sep 25 2025 at 22:22):

yeah I don't think I've ever found a good way to do it in the middle of an item if I have to then resume the same indentation afterwards

Here's what it looks like to me (in Firefox on Mac):

(I don't know a good way of formatting code blocks in bullet items either)

Indentation-based code blocks seem to work in lists. (Check the source code of this message using the "View original message" option)

Lorem
  • ipsum

    dolor
    sit

    amet,

  • consectetur

  • adipiscing...

Thomas Murrills (Sep 25 2025 at 22:30):

Huh, I didn't know you could create code blocks with whitespace alone!

Joscha Mennicken (Sep 25 2025 at 22:32):

Zulip's markup language is based on markdown, so it makes sense this markdown feature would work as well.

My exact google query was markdown code block in list :D
