Topic: Display unread count only for topics I follow

Vasily Ilin (May 30 2024 at 20:27):

How can I display the unread count only for the topics I follow? The unread count is usually in the thousands for me, because I don't use Zulip very often and almost never open some channels. That's not very helpful.

Johan Commelin (May 30 2024 at 20:45):

You can unsubscribe from those channels. That might help.

Johan Commelin (May 30 2024 at 20:45):

But I'm not sure if it's very customizable beyond that...

Vasily Ilin (May 30 2024 at 20:46):

I see, okay, thank you

Alya Abbott (May 30 2024 at 22:11):

We've had some discussion about implementing this option, but were first trying to brainstorm a design that would give some visual indication that this is how your Zulip is configured.

Do folks think having a visual distinction would be important?

Alex Vandiver (May 31 2024 at 01:36):

You can also mute those channels, and unmute the topics you care about in them.

Alex Vandiver (May 31 2024 at 01:37):

For instance, I have #general muted, so it doesn't show up in unreads, but if I unmute one topic with 11 unreads in it, my overall unreads show as 11 now.
