Mauricio Collares (Feb 21 2024 at 15:04):
I just noticed that it now is! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zulip.flutter. Apparently it was released two days after my previous message. It's an early preview but it can be installed alongside the standard app, which is nice.
Patrick Massot (Feb 21 2024 at 16:36):
The link appears to be dead.
Mauricio Collares (Feb 21 2024 at 16:41):
Works here, but try searching for "Zulip (Flutter beta)" in the Play Store.
Patrick Massot (Feb 21 2024 at 16:42):
This is crazy, I only see

Eric Wieser (Feb 21 2024 at 16:51):
Not available in france / US, perhaps?
Patrick Massot (Feb 21 2024 at 16:52):
I can see it on my phone. But the flutter app doesn’t seem to allow authentication through GitHub so I cannot access my account.
Alex Vandiver (Feb 21 2024 at 17:15):
You can read about the status of the Flutter beta, including caveats and known limitations/bugs, along with instructions for joining it, here.
Alex Vandiver (Feb 21 2024 at 17:15):
It currently only supports password authentication.
Alex Vandiver (Feb 21 2024 at 17:16):
We intentionally have not announced it broadly yet, since it's still an early beta. We'll be advertising it more widely when we have a more feature-complete version ready (for instance, including non-password auth).

eee
looks like this, but I've just realized that my phone's Android version is 12, not 13.
Shreyas Srinivas (Feb 22 2024 at 00:31):
A few observations about the beta app.
- It is much slicker and neater than the current Android app.
- So far I have not had the kind of network connection issues that I have with the existing app.
- Things like math mode seem to work and code
quotations
work. - There is no dark mode yet.
- The initial screen could show us the views section of the desktop app including "Recent Conversations" for example.
Shreyas Srinivas (Feb 22 2024 at 00:32):
Okay that was strange. Math mode seemed to work for me but now math is rendered as code
Shreyas Srinivas (Feb 22 2024 at 00:35):
What's missing are the following:
- The aforementioned math mode rendering
- Message editing isn't available.
- Text formatting is rendered incorrectly (but the app gives a meaningful error message).
- The loogle bot doesn't work. I am not sure if this is just loogle or all bots.
- Drafts do not appear to be saved.
Alex Vandiver (Feb 22 2024 at 03:18):
What's "the loogle bot," and how does it not work?
Other than that, I'm pretty sure all those missing items are known, and you can track their progress on the project board. If you have specific questions or feedback, #mobile > Flutter app is the place to leave them.

Mario Carneiro (Feb 22 2024 at 05:20):
seems to work

Shreyas Srinivas (Feb 22 2024 at 11:19):
In the normal zulip app, loogle works in private DMs too
Shreyas Srinivas (Feb 22 2024 at 11:21):
Oh wait. This might be a mistake on my end
Alex Vandiver (Feb 22 2024 at 14:34):
That looks like a DM with yourself. Even if you @ other people (or bots) in your DMs to yourself, other people (or bots) can't read them and respond to them.
Mauricio Collares (Jun 18 2024 at 20:18):
Still an early beta, but it supports GitHub auth now!
Mauricio Collares (Jun 18 2024 at 20:23):
On Android at least
Alex Vandiver (Jun 19 2024 at 00:18):
It's pretty much the same code on both iOS and Android, so all Zulip Flutter builds have that support now.
Utensil Song (Jun 19 2024 at 01:41):
Just gave Zulip Flutter iOS a try, seems smooth, Github auth also works. No dark mode though.
Utensil Song (Jun 19 2024 at 01:43):
I'm particularly looking forward to see Recent conversations view, but there seems to be little news on that.
Alex Vandiver (Jun 19 2024 at 02:35):
Dark mode is being actively worked on right now. Recent conversations is marked as in the "post-launch" milestone, so I don't expect it to be getting much attention yet.
Joachim Breitner (Dec 20 2024 at 12:57):
Just installed the flutter app, thanks for improving the mobile experience here!
For me I'd have to adjust my habits to make good use of it. I currently use the web site on the phone (and the desktop app on the desktop) and my workflow heavily revolves around the “recent conversation view”, the ability to quickly switch between all, unread, participated and followed conversations there, and then the ability to mark all messages (all streams, all topics) as unread. It seems that the flutter app doesn't support that yet, but I'll keep watching.
Support for multiple servers is good, but switching not quite as convenient as it could be (e.g. as in the Slack app).
That's all I tried so far :-)
Eric Wieser (Dec 20 2024 at 13:05):
Yes, I was also sad to see that the "recent conversations view" is not one of the features the new app brings

Chris Bobbe (Dec 27 2024 at 17:25):
Thanks all for the beta feedback! Chris here, from the Zulip mobile team. We're catching up with it slowly during the holidays, but we're excited and grateful to see so much of it. :snowman:
Folks should feel free to join us in #mobile
in the Zulip development community for a higher chance of prompt replies since we read that channel daily.
I've split some of this topic's messages out to new topics, to discuss each piece of feedback separately, but it looks like I'm out of the time window for doing that for Joachim Breitner's and @Eric Wieser's messages on December 20th. I've replied to those here.
Chris Bobbe (Dec 27 2024 at 18:18):
OK, and I believe I've responded to all the new mobile beta feedback here; please @-mention me if I missed something!
For new feedback, the most convenient venue for me is the #mobile
channel in the Zulip development community, but I expect we'll also check in here periodically. In both places, it's most helpful to have a separate topic for each area of feedback, but don't let that be an obstacle to leaving feedback at all; we're happy to split topics up ourselves, to help make sure we don't drop things.
