I'd had issues finding a home for science formalization papers, getting a lot of desk rejects for being out of scope. Here's an upcoming journal to be aware of - will be launching in late February 2026: https://www.aps.org/about/news/2025/12/open-science-expand-global-participation
Including "data and software papers" and "negative and null results" makes it it feels a bit like PLOS One. The press release mentions "technically valid and ethically compliant research across the full breadth of physics and adjacent fields" and doesn't mention "high-impact" anywhere.

FWIW, our dimensional analysis paper was desk-rejected by two other APS journals, so far (and one took forever to tell us that...). Currently deciding whether to submit it to PLOS One or to wait a couple months and submit it to APS Open Science when it launches, or rewrite parts of the paper toward a Chemical Engineering audience and try something closer to my community.
